Parish Survey - Click Here for the online survey

Dear Parishioners:

As you may know, our Diocese has begun a comprehensive study of all the parishes. This study is due to the priest shortage, decreasing Mass attendance, changes in parish membership, and the desire to improve overall parish vitality. To put it bluntly, we have too many parishes and too few priests to serve them. In his recent pastoral letter which was mailed to all parishioners in the diocese, Bishop Cistone refers to this study on pages 35 to 37.

Every parish has formed a Core Committee charged with the task of completing a parish evaluation to determine how well our parish measures up in the areas of worship, education, service to the poor, finances and much more. We are asking you to help us by telling us your opinion about how well our parish is doing. Please fill out this survey. It should not take more than 10 minutes of your time. Please submit it no later than February 3.

This study is very important. It will affect all parishes in some way. Parishes may choose to merge with a neighboring parish (or parishes). Others may share a pastor with another parish. Some may choose to close if they find that they can no longer offer the ministries and services required for today’s parishes. Mass schedules may be reduced due to the declining number of priests and declining Mass attendance. For example, if all our parishioners would attend Mass every weekend, the church would be full at all three Masses. The way it has been for the past year, we could get by with two Masses.

This study will require close collaboration and creativity among all parishes. It will certainly affect St. Stephen and all parishes for years to come.

Please feel free to write down any concerns you may have that are not included in this survey, and help us by completing and returning it as soon as possible. Finally, please keep this project in your prayers.

Thank you and God bless you and your loved ones throughout this New Year.

Fr. Jim

Bible Study
St. Stephen's weekly Bible study group meets at 9:45 a.m. Thursdays in the Rectory Dining Room.  Each week we examine and discuss the readings for the following Sunday's Mass.  No need to commit to every week, just stop by for a cup of coffee and some lively conversation.
