St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment Fund
Author: Endowment Committee
Authored on: 10/05/05

Many years ago, the diocese enjoyed the benefits of a "human" endowment which kept the cost of a Catholic school education affordable. This endowment was the religious who dedicated their lives to educating the youth of our diocese for a very low salary. Dramatic changes have occurred over the past few decades. The decrease in the number of sisters and priests in our schools and the need to pay teachers a fair and equitable wage have increased the cost of Catholic school education to the point where it is often not affordable for every child. A primary goal of the St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment Fund is to provide the funding so critically needed by our school. the Endowment Fund will help insure the future financial security of our school, making it an affordable option for all children and families who desire a faith-based education. *What is the St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment fund? The St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment Fund consists of money invested for our school. The principal of the fund remains untouched, but a semi-annual earnings distribution supplements the school's operating income. *Will you spend my donation to the St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment Fund? No. Gifts to the Endowment Fund are permanently endowed and cannot be spent. Only earnings from donations are spend. *What happens to my donation if the school closes? The Endowment Fund was created to help ensure the school does not close. However, should this happen, the Trust Agreement for the Endowment Fund states that income will instead help to pay for religious education programs and other Catholic educational purposes for the children of St. Stephen Parish. *How will my gift to the Endowment Fund help St. Stephen School? A gift to the St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment fund will "last a life time." Your gift provides a long-term, perpetual income stream for the school. The semi-annual earnings allotments go toward tuition assistance, in-service programs and professional development for staff, and text books and equipment for classrooms. Your gift to the Endowment fund will help ensure that some day, every child wishing to attend a Catholic School will be able to do so. *Can I stipulate how my gift will be used? Yes. While "unrestricted" gifts are preferred, individual donors can direct that their gift be used to establish a tuition-assistance fund or other specific use that fits the overall goals of the Endowment fund. *How can I contribute? You can make donations to the St. Stephen Catholic School Endowment Fund in any of the following ways: Cash; gifts through wills; stocks, bonds or other securities; Real Estate or other personal property;life insurance policies; gifts through a trust; or memorial gifts An endowed gift to St. Stephen School offers you an opportunity to extend your stewardship beyond your lifetime. It lets you give proportionately from your accumulated assets to ensure that the mission of our Catholic schools is faithfully advanced in future generations.
